The Greenwood Parks and Recreation Board on May 6, 2025 approved multiple use agreements for summer events at Freedom Park and other park facilities, including a VFW Post run, a youth triathlon and the Greenwood Police Department’s National Night Out.
Staff described a use agreement with the VFW Post 58 64 for a May 31 5K fundraiser that would use the shelter house and associated park facilities. The board approved the use agreement with no recorded opposition.
The board also approved a use agreement for the Tri for Kids triathlon at Freedom Park on Aug. 24, 2025. Staff said the triathlon will use the pool (spring swimming) for the swim leg, cycling and running routes in park-adjacent areas, and a tented transition area. The agreement was presented as a returning event.
Finally, staff presented a use agreement with the Greenwood Police Department for National Night Out on Aug. 25, 2025; the board approved that request as well.
Board members made and seconded the motions and voted in favor of each permit. Staff will coordinate logistics, facility scheduling and any permit conditions required by the city before each event.
