The Spalding County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 May 5 to approve the county’s 2026 employee health, vision and dental benefits contract with existing providers Veracity, Cigna and MSI, after staff presented recommendations intended to reduce employees’ out-of-pocket expenses.
County Manager Dr. Christopher Ledbetter told commissioners that staff’s recommendation preserves current providers while increasing the maximum out-of-pocket to $1,500 for employees, adds GLP-1 medications as a covered benefit, and gives staff authority to assess a health savings account (HSA) option as an additional tool to lower employee expenses.
Why it matters: Employee benefits affect recruitment, retention and county personnel costs. Commissioners had reviewed the issue in a prior workshop and confirmed staff’s recommendation during the meeting. The county manager said the changes are not expected to change the adopted budget.
Commissioners voted 5-0 on the motion to approve the contract and directed staff to continue evaluating HSA implementation and monitor actual premium impacts.
The county will finalize plan documents and communicate enrollment details to employees ahead of the 2026 plan year.
