Alpharetta economic development staff told the Development Authority that the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) board approved a $75,000 contribution to a sports and entertainment feasibility study — clearing a contingency the authority required before executing the study contract.
Charlie Jewell, economic development staff, said the authority’s special meeting on Friday authorized funding and contract execution contingent on the CVB contribution; CVB’s board met at noon and approved the $75,000 contribution, so staff will proceed to finalize and sign the contract. Woody Vaughn (legal review) and city finance will review contract documents before execution.
Jewell also introduced Mandy York as the new marketing coordinator for the city; staff said York brings more than eight years of experience in digital marketing, graphic design and photography.
Jewell said he will attend SelectUSA next week with the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the U.S. Department of Commerce pavilion, where economic development representatives meet international companies considering U.S. operations. Jewell said the travel is scheduled Monday through Thursday.
Charlotte (staff presenter) updated the authority on a downtown wayfinding effort: three static directory signs were installed in the walkable downtown core — near Towne Green, near Old Milton Park, and next to Aria Salon on Milton Avenue. The signs list downtown restaurants, retail and salons; staff said they will be refreshed quarterly and an online version has been added to the CVB website. A feedback form is live to collect public input, and staff reported early positive engagement since the signs were installed.
In the meeting’s open discussion, Authority member David (surname not provided) asked to schedule another bus tour to review recent projects; staff said they would coordinate with attorneys and community development on availability and project status. A board member asked the authority to consider how to deploy roughly $200,000 in authority funds and asked staff to consider options for use in the next six to 12 months.
Jewell asked authority members to stop by at the meeting’s end to welcome Mandy York.
No formal vote was required on the CVB funding update, staff hires, or the directory signs; the CVB contribution cleared the contingency that allowed contract execution to proceed under the authority’s prior action.
