School committee approves Ridge Club as prom venue; leaders discuss ticket cost and access

The Wareham School Committee voted May 1 to approve a prom venue contract for the Class of 2026 at the Ridge Club in Sandwich.
Student leader McKenna Duggan presented the plan: the prom is scheduled for May 9, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a capacity of about 250 and an expected senior-class size of roughly 100. The proposed ticket cap was no more than $90 per ticket; final pricing will depend on final headcount and fundraising. The district’s administrators said the typical ticket in recent years has ranged from about $65 to the mid-$80s because of rising food costs and that early sign-up discounts can reduce the per-student price.
High-school administrators and committee members discussed access and affordability. Principal Paladino and other committee members said families with financial hardship have historically been assisted; committee members emphasized they do not want students to be excluded because of cost and discussed using fundraising or senior-class funds as backstops for students in need.
The motion to approve the prom venue passed by voice vote; the committee recorded unanimous support on the motion before follow-up planning and pricing work by students and staff.
No additional policy changes were made; the administration said it will continue to monitor pricing and fundraising and report back.
