Sherburne County commissioners voted May 6 to direct the county administrator to draft a strongly worded letter of opposition to pending state budget proposals that would shift costs to counties. The board also authorized circulating the letter for signatures and publishing an accompanying letter to the editor.
County Administrator Bruce told the board the fiscal proposals in the legislature would materially affect county budgets and property taxpayers; he offered to draft a letter for commissioners’ review. Commissioner Holzinger and others urged a blunt tone to press the legislature on county impacts. The board voted unanimously to have the administrator draft the letter and to circulate it for signatures; commissioners also agreed to pursue a letter to the editor to amplify the concern.
Staff will draft the letter, circulate it to commissioners for edits, and collect signatures electronically or in person before the end of session.
