At the April meeting the Norwalk Parking Authority received an update on outreach to local businesses and short-term parking usage following recent equipment upgrades.
Kiara (Kara) Heider, identified in the meeting as senior director of marketing for LAZ, said LAZ staff canvassed roughly 80 businesses to gather feedback and that the vendor is preparing targeted marketing recommendations and district-level forums. Heider said the outreach will inform pricing and promotional ideas and that some ideas being considered include facility ads and website updates to highlight newly available options such as the free 15‑minute on‑street parking.
Rocky presented usage data staff compiled for March and said the authority saw a 27% increase in 15‑minute parking usage from February, concentrated in the SoNo, Wall Street and West Avenue areas. Rocky said staff have been educating business owners and customers about the 15‑minute option since the equipment rollout.
Brian credited the installation team and staff for a smooth equipment rollout in March and said customers responded positively. He summarized that the system’s early performance included improved traffic flow at the Maritime Garage during a busy week.
In other business, Brian said the city completed committee approvals for a lease of the Lobster Craft space to Adrian Hurtado, operating as “Taco Guy.” The lease was sent to Hurtado for review; if executed the tenant aims to begin fit-out with an expected opening target around May 1. Staff said a ribbon-cutting would be planned once the tenant opens.
Staff said they would return with measurable marketing recommendations and a proposed schedule at the next meeting; commissioners asked that any proposal identify objectives and metrics so the board can evaluate results before approving new programs or expenditures.
