At the committee—s April 24 meeting, Norwalk Police Department staff delivered a monthly community-policing report describing outreach events, enforcement locations and behavioral-health activity.
Staff reported the community policing division handled 1,041 calls for service during the month. The unit includes three traffic officers, three patrol officers, two sergeants and one lieutenant; a behavior-health unit also operates within the division.
For March, staff said the community-policing team staffed or attended a wide range of events including Saint Patrick—s Day parades, school reading programs, children—s safety presentations and 22coffee with a cop22 events. The division carried out selective enforcement at 86 locations across the city based on citizen requests and crash-data priorities.
Staff said the behavior-health unit opened 55 cases and closed 45 in the month, with 31 hospitalizations noted; they reported three partnerships with state'0 attorneys, 24 referrals to services and work with 22 families. Animal-control reported 64 cases, four animal bites, six infractions and three dog adoptions for the month.
Committee members praised the division—s community presence and recommended continued public updates. No formal committee action was required or taken on the report beyond receiving the update.
