Council authorizes purchase of two fire apparatus from bond funds; delivery expected 2025–2026

Sugar Land City Council authorized two contract purchases for the Fire Department on May 6, approving a Spartan S180 pumper at $1,173,346 and a Pierce Enforcer 107-foot aerial ladder at $2,096,592 through Houston-Galveston Area Council cooperative contracts. Chief Mark Campisi presented both items as planned replacements under the 2024 general obligation bond program for public safety.
Campisi said the pumper will replace a 2005 reserve engine that had reached the end of its useful life and that the new vehicle would enter frontline service; the purchase uses a stock, already-engineered unit to speed delivery with an estimated arrival in December 2025. “Parts for a 20 year old fire truck are hard to come by nowadays,” Campisi said, explaining the replacement rationale.
The ladder truck purchase replaces a reserve ladder that has had mechanical issues; Campisi noted the department runs two primary brands and is comfortable with either. The new 107-foot ladder is a stock vehicle with an estimated delivery of February 2026; Campisi said custom orders can take multiple years and the department sought a stock unit to meet deployment needs.
Both purchases were described as funded from Proposition A of the 2024 G.O. bond for public safety and passed by council hand vote. The pumper motion passed 7-0; the ladder purchase also passed 7-0. Delivery schedules and future placement were noted: the new ladder is planned for Station 7 and the new engine for Station 6 (Greatwood); reserve vehicles will be reallocated accordingly.
