The Walton County Design Review Board on May 1 approved a building sign for Bay Dental Center in District 5, a shopping center on the north side of Highway 98 that does not have a master sign plan. Planning staff entered the application into the record and described the proposal as an externally lit LED building sign measuring 32 inches by 68 inches, with a stated area of 37.33 square feet.
Fonus Fisher of Fishco Graphics, who identified himself at the meeting as the applicant’s representative, told the board he had provided multiple photographs and renderings to staff but that only a close-up image was included in the packet. Fisher said he had left paper copies at the planning office and would ensure the portal submission was complete; staff acknowledged the larger set had not been available in the digital packet.
Board members said they wanted more contextual, zoomed-out images for future shopping-center sign submissions so the board can review compatibility across the building. No speakers from the public addressed the item. A board member moved to approve the Bay Dental building sign as presented; the motion carried by voice vote recorded as "Aye." Staff will process the sign permit through the usual administrative steps.
Because the center lacks a master sign plan, the board noted that each tenant’s signage must return to the board for approval, and staff reiterated that the board relies on full context images to assess compatibility with neighboring tenant signs.
