Walton County commissioners on April 22 approved a proposed site for a new senior center near the county’s government/education complex and confirmed the $500,000 allocation approved at a prior meeting will apply to the project.
County staff and the seniors’ group presented a roughly 2.5‑acre parcel immediately west of an existing county parking area. County engineer Chance Powell and Boynton County engineering staff described a phasing concept with a potential Phase 1 building of about 6,400 square feet and designs that avoid wetlands and buffers; the team said wetlands lie west of the property but there is developable area on the south end of the parcel. The seniors’ group has a volunteer architect assisting with site planning.
Commissioners voted to approve the site location and to proceed to schematic design and required environmental reviews; staff said they will return with site drawings, cost estimates and permitting steps. The board approved the use of the $500,000 previously authorized for the senior center at a prior meeting.
