Waste Management outlined three options: add a second weekly pickup for the north end (more costly and operationally complex); provide a permanent second cart to all northern residences; or offer a second cart to North End residents on a condensed, limited‑time rollout (the company’s recommended option). Waste Management representatives said the condensed option would be implemented in roughly a three‑month window and coordinated through county staff so the county has a record of which households receive a second cart.
Commissioners said they favored option 3 as a manageable compromise and asked county staff and the company to return at the next commission meeting with the contract language and a full cost analysis. Commissioners and Waste Management leaders acknowledged a public education effort will be necessary; officials warned of expected initial service calls and “growing pains” during rollout.
No final contract amendment was approved at the April 22 meeting; commissioners directed staff to prepare the documents and costs for formal action at the next meeting.
