Council awards building improvement contracts; awards wiring contract for law enforcement site using settlement funds

Edgefield County Council voted to award multiple county building improvement contracts and to fund electrical work at the law enforcement center (LEC) site.
The council approved awarding RG Novelo a contract for county building improvements (agriculture extension, NRCS library, and magistrate’s building) in the amount of $75,980, and Gore Construction a contract to improve the courthouse annex for $55,000. County staff said awarding separate contracts for these projects saved the county about $8,000 compared with a single award; both firms are local contractors and agreed to the split.
In a separate action the council awarded a contract to RG Novelo to wire two law enforcement accessory buildings adjacent to the county’s animal care and control facility. County staff said the buildings were provided as shell structures by Yarborough Construction and that wiring will be funded from settlement funds designated for work on the LEC site.
Council members asked about prior work by Gore Construction; staff noted Gore has performed work on Bettis Park restroom and scorekeeper buildings and other local projects. All awards passed unanimously.
Provenance: the council considered these awards under new business and approved them during one vote sequence that split the work to reduce cost.
