Monroe County board approves multiple grant applications, claims and planning item

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners at its May 7 meeting approved several finance and grant items, including the payment of current claims, two check registers, and authorization to apply for multiple state and federal grants.
The board approved payment of the accounts payable current claims report in the amount of $949,835.62. The board also approved a non-claims check register dated April 25, 2025, in the amount of $48,082,928.52 and a check register dated May 2, 2025, for $555,218.33.
Detective Lieutenant James Jarrett Mantis requested approval to apply for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for fiscal year 2025–26 in the amount of $101,978; the board approved the request with no local match required. Holly Flint, community corrections coordinator, asked the board to approve submitting an application for the FY 2026 community corrections grant in the amount of $365,850.83; meeting materials stated the county contribution would be determined based on the award and was expected to be approximately $137,986 and that the county's match was included in the 2025 budget. The board also confirmed submission of a FY 2026 County Veterans Service Fund grant application to the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency in the amount of $67,857; the packet noted no local match was required.
On a separate planning item, the board approved county planners' recommendation on proposed updates to the Luna Pier master plan after clarifying that the item concerned Luna Pier rather than the Village of Carlton as a cover-letter typo had suggested.
