Galloway Go Green unveils reusable-bag contest winner; students recognized

The Galloway Go Green Team and Galloway Township Middle School on Wednesday recognized student artwork chosen for a reusable-bag contest and presented certificates to honorable-mention entrants.
Debbie Summers, adult liaison for the environmental club and the Galloway Go Green Team, said the winning design by Ruhi Patel will be printed on bags distributed at the Smithville Green Market, which runs Thursdays from June 26 to Sept. 4. Summers said the contest drew more than 400 entries from third through sixth grades across Arthur Rand, Smithville, Roland and Reeds Road schools.
"The reusable bag contest this is one that was pre-COVID, and a Smithville student had won the competition," Summers said, announcing this year's winner and reading a list of honorable mentions. Summers said Ruhi and her family can pick up a personal copy of the bag at the Green Market; the board of education additionally gave each recognized student a cookie and the vendor Lindy Hopps donated ice-cream certificates to the honorees.
The presentation included a public photo opportunity for students and parents. Summers said the printed bags will be ready for the Green Market's opening date and encouraged community members to visit the market on the Village Green.
