The Concord Historical Commission voted April 3 to permit demolition of 1442 Main Street, applying the same conditions it required for 110 Highland Ave: HABS‑level documentation (Level I preferred), photographs and plans, deposit of research and images with the Concord Free Public Library, and a requirement that the Zoning Board of Appeals issue the required earth‑removal permit consistent with the court’s order.
Applicant representatives said the two properties are part of the same residential subdivision project and that grading and removal of the existing hill are integral to the approved plan for 20 dwellings. The developer reiterated willingness to work with the commission on documentation and to consider on‑site interpretive signage or plaques to preserve the history of the lots for the public record.
Commissioners noted the prior 2018 demolition‑delay action (which had a two‑year sunset) and the period of litigation that followed; given the court’s recent direction to the ZBA and the developer’s commitment to documentation, commissioners approved demolition rather than imposing additional delay. The developer agreed the commission and the town would be able to comment on street names and signage during later planning board approvals.
