Amalie Isaac, president of the GTMS Student Council, told the Galloway Township Board of Education on Wednesday that the council completed a busy 202425 school year of student-led events and service projects.
Isaac gave a month-by-month summary that opened with September memorial activities and included a September salute to veterans, October breast cancer awareness spirit week, a November canned goods food drive, and winter spirit activities in December. The council hosted a Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest in January, a Black History Month museum and slideshow in February, a March trip to the New Jersey State Capitol and participation in a hands-on lawmaking program, and a long-running diversity night that the student council said has been held for six years.
"We will start off with September. So for September, we did a lot of 9 11 memorial events such as the salute to veteran ceremony," Isaac announced during her report. She also said the council raised funds through a weekly pretzel sale and was preparing for an end-of-year trip in May.
The presentation was part of a regular meeting that featured multiple student recognitions; board members thanked Isaac for her leadership and noted she will be recognized again that evening. No board action was required following the report.
