Barry County committee approves routine items: tax rate form, 2026 budget calendar and Titan Center audio-visual upgrade

The Barry County committee on May 6 recommended approval of several routine administrative items: the 2025 L-4029 tax rate form, adoption of a 2026 budget calendar and a contract to upgrade the Titan Center meeting room audio-visual system.
Meshaya Rose (Equalization) requested approval and signature of the 2025 L-4029 tax rate request form that authorizes local treasurers to collect property tax as indicated in the county's already-approved 2025 budget. Rose said she applied a Headlee millage reduction fraction so the allowable mills are reduced to prevent revenue from growing beyond the state limit. The committee moved to recommend Board approval; motion carried by voice vote (mover: Tunis; support: Hatfield).
The committee also approved a proposed 2026 budget calendar outlining the same budget manual and process used in prior years, including department submissions, administrative review and public hearings planned for August'October. The motion to recommend the calendar to the full Board was moved by Colton and supported by Bassett and carried by voice vote.
On technology, County Administrator Eric described the Titan Center audio-visual upgrade as a permanent installation to support virtual meetings, training and remote participation across multiple county boards. The recommended contract is with Smart Home Smart Offices for $9,175.04, to be paid from the county's IT fund; the committee approved recommending the contract (motion by Getty; support by Hatfield).
Other procedural items handled by the committee included approval of the Committee of the Whole minutes from April 15; that motion carried by voice vote.
