TDT collections down slightly through March; cash balance and expenditures reported

Escambia County budget staff reported the status of Tourist Development Tax collections and expenditures through March 2025 at the council’s April 15 meeting.
Senior budget analyst Jeremy Pagolegan presented the fiscal snapshot: "As of the March 2025, FY '25 collections including interest total $7,429,502. This compares to $7,587,004 in collections through March 2024, reflecting a decrease of approximately $157,502 year over year," Pagolegan said. He said FY25 collections through March represented 36.24% of the annual TDT budget (set at $20,500,000).
On the expense side, Pagolegan reported total expenditures through March of roughly $8,140,000 and stated the current TDT cash balance stood at $28,600,000. Council members asked clarifying questions and received the detailed packet from the clerk’s office showing line‑by‑line distributions.
Why it matters: The TDC uses collection and reserve data to evaluate funding requests for marketing, events and capital projects. Several large capital requests on the April agenda—UWF stadium aid, John R. Jones park upgrades, Pensacola Beach nourishment and the gateway project—triggered questions about reserves and possible financing approaches.
Ending: Staff asked members to refer to the detailed packet for line items and offered to return with more granular projections if members wanted to model alternative award scenarios.
