School board approves several administrative promotions; appointments effective July 1

The Chesapeake School Board approved a slate of administrative appointments announced after a closed session and voted unanimously to make the positions effective July 1.
Superintendent Dr. Marcus Cotton recommended several administrative moves: Dr. Angela L. Isbell from director of elementary school leadership to chief of schools; Karen D. Black from assistant principal at Great Bridge High to principal at Great Bridge High; Amanda E. Jones (now Turk) from assistant principal at Oscar Smith Middle to principal at Oscar Smith Middle; Jennifer J. Morris Hayes from coordinator of mathematics to supervisor of mathematics; and J. Edward Ewing from assistant principal at the Chesapeake Center for Student Success to assistant principal at Great Bridge High. Dr. Cotton said these appointments would become effective July 1 if the board approved.
The board moved and seconded the recommendation and the motion carried with all members present voting yes. “Motion carries with all board members present voting yes,” a board member announced following the roll call on the motion.
The superintendent also asked the board to approve that certain administrators who completed their first year in the 2024‑25 school year remain at their current assignments for 2025‑26. Those staff approved to remain at their current locations included Tara H. Amorowicz (assistant principal, Great Bridge Intermediate), Niani C. Battle (assistant principal, Georgetown Primary), Shamika M. Dedeaux (assistant principal, Truett Intermediate), Daphne T. Folsom (assistant principal, Cedar Road Elementary), Christopher J. Giddis (assistant principal, Hickory High), Danielle A. Green (assistant principal, Grassfield Elementary), Kristin M. Key (assistant principal, Great Bridge High), Sonya H. Stephens (assistant principal, Grassfield High) and Courtney B. Stukes (assistant principal, Oscar Smith Middle).
Those approvals were taken as formal actions after the closed session; the motions were made, seconded and carried unanimously.
