The City of Red Bank presented a proposed FY26 agreement with McKamey Animal Center to provide animal control services for $83,448, with staff noting a $3,968.56 contract increase for McKamey’s cost-of-living adjustment.
Director Johnson said the city has contracted with the county for animal control since February 2019 and that McKamey’s services have expanded in response to local needs. Staff described increased officer presence and educational outreach at the city’s dog park, particularly on weekends and some evenings, which staff said has shifted responses from enforcement-only to more visible, educational interactions.
Commissioners asked whether McKamey or staff notify the city about required signage and whether citations that reach city court are followed up; Director Johnson said McKamey maintains ongoing communication with staff, provides incident reports, and that the city participates in court proceedings when necessary. Director Johnson also confirmed the $3,968.56 increase represents a little over a 4% rise in the contract amount.
No formal vote on the contract is recorded in the work session transcript. The agenda item was presented for authorization; staff said the cost is included in the FY26 proposed budget packet.
The commission did not record a motion or roll-call vote during the work session. If the commission later places the item on a regular meeting agenda, a formal vote may be recorded at that time.
