School board approves charter renewal, school remissioning and several construction contracts unanimously

The Okaloosa County School Board on May 20 approved multiple agenda items unanimously, including two public hearings and several construction and personnel motions.
In public hearings the board approved the proposed remissioning of Egeland Elementary School to include fifth grade (agenda item 15.1). The motion to approve was made by Mr. Heinle and seconded by Mr. Bryant; the board voted 4 to 0 to carry the motion.
The board also approved the charter school renewal contract with Destin High School Incorporated (agenda item 15.2). That motion was moved by Mr. Destin, seconded by Mr. Bryant and approved 4 to 0.
On the consent and action agendas the board approved the consent agenda (7.1) and multiple personnel items (sections 8.3–8.9) by voice vote, all recorded as 4 to 0. Those personnel items included employment separations (8.3), other personnel recommendations (8.5), employee transfers (8.6), an employee suspension (8.7), leave without pay (8.8) and reinstatement/reimbursement of sick leave for a line-of-duty illness/injury medical examination (8.9). The agenda minutes record each as approved with no discussion.
The board approved several construction and facilities items recommended by district staff and the superintendent: TPM Program No. 6, Task Order No. 44 (guaranteed maximum price, GMP, for roof replacement at Elliott Point Elementary School, Phase 1); TPM Program No. 6, Task Order No. 12, Scope Modification No. 5 (GMP for Edwins Elementary School cafeteria and media center renovations); and TPM Program No. 6, Task Order No. 28, Scope Modification No. 2 (Phase 2 security upgrades at Niceville High School and Baker School). Each motion was moved and seconded and carried by a 4-0 vote.
The board also approved a waiver of the OCEA master contract requested by Okaloosa Technical College to adjust the standard work week for the 2025–26 school year (section 8.4); that motion passed 4 to 0.
