Board schedules public hearings on Eglin Elementary reconfiguration and Destin High charter renewal

Mr. Spolsky described the Eglin reconfiguration as a base-led and community-supported proposal; he said base leadership, the school advisory council and the Eglin PTO back the change and that the move would mirror past consolidation decisions when the district previously reorganized on-base schools. "This is something that came from base leadership, the school advisory council, the parent, PTO Association at Eglin," Mr. Spolsky said. When asked, staff characterized the proposal as generally positive and efficient.
Doctor Choice presented the Destin High School charter renewal item (15.2 on the agenda) and recommended the board consider renewal; the item was set for a public hearing. Both hearings were placed on the agenda for the board's future action; no final decisions or votes on the reconfiguration or the charter renewal were recorded during the meeting.
Ending: Staff will advertise both hearings and return the items for board consideration following the public-comment periods required by district policy.
