Needham Planning Board flags downtown parking problems, calls for multi-day study

Board members discussed next steps, including commissioning a more robust, multi-day parking study conducted outside atypical conditions (for example, not during COVID or unusual periods) and timing the study before or after the summer peak. A board member asked that the item be placed on the next meeting agenda so the board and staff can review updated data before any zoning or permit decisions related to downtown businesses or the proposed care expansion.
No formal motion to commission a study was recorded at the meeting; board members directed staff to return with recommendations and updated study parameters for the board to consider at a future meeting.
