Council confirms E.C. Amieng as executive director of Seattle Community Police Commission

The Seattle City Council on May 6 confirmed E.C. Amieng as executive director of the Seattle Community Police Commission (CPC).
Council member Kathy Kettle, chairing the public-safety committee, recommended the confirmation and cited Amieng’s prior service as deputy and acting executive director. Kettle noted Amieng’s legal background and experience working with state and county offices and asked colleagues for their support.
Council member Alex Rivera said he had worked with Amieng previously at the Office of Civil Rights and praised her work ethic and commitment to civil-rights issues. The confirmation carried with unanimous support on the roll call.
After the oath of office, Amieng spoke to the council and public. She described three priorities for the CPC: rebuilding relationships with the city’s accountability partners (including OPA and OIG) as the city contemplates a possible post-consent-decree future; securing sustainable operating resources after staffing and expense increases tied to 2023 ordinance changes; and building community capacity so impacted residents can “own their seat at the table” and co‑create public-safety solutions. Amieng also thanked staff, commissioners and family and noted the CPC’s recent collaborative policy work with other accountability partners.
