Council receives update on ARPA funding request for solar scoreboard; no appropriation yet

The Charlestown Town Council on April 28 received an update on a proposed solar scoreboard for the Cherry Hill Cowboys that would be purchased with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds but did not take action to appropriate money at the meeting.
Town Administrator Jeff Allen and project coordinator Ken Swain met earlier with representatives from the Cherry Hill Cowboys to review scoreboard options. Allen said the group will choose colors and text for the scoreboard and that the team and volunteers will assist in securing the unit to existing field standards. “The turnaround time is about 5 to 7 weeks once you order it,” Allen said.
Councilors discussed the season timetable—the team begins practice Aug. 1 and plays in September—and staff said they expect to return to a future council meeting with final specifications and a request for appropriation once the Cowboys and staff settle the details.
No motion or appropriation took place April 28; staff and the Cowboys will continue coordination and bring a funding request to council at a subsequent meeting.
