Charlestown town councilors on April 28 voted to extend the review period for proposed edits to the town’s commercial and village design standards and asked the subcommittee to report back by Oct. 14, 2025.
The council reviewed a memo from the town planner noting the review group — which includes members of the planning commission and the Economic Improvement Commission (EIC) — needed additional time to complete its work. Members of the council and subcommittee said scheduling, quorum issues and the complexity of drafting specific edits — rather than wholesale changes to the consultant’s original document — required more time to reach consensus.
Councilor Stokes moved to request a report from the subcommittee by the first October council meeting (Oct. 14, 2025); Councilor Marr seconded. The motion passed 5–0. Council discussion emphasized the need to produce a schedule of meetings and to coordinate with the EIC; the council also asked that staff consult the town solicitor about whether portions of the consultant document can be edited directly or whether the subcommittee should prepare a companion document that incorporates proposed changes.
