The City Council on May 6 approved a budget amendment that included the city’s repurchase of cemetery lots from the International Order of the Odd Fellows and a request for additional parks funding to cover higher utility costs and unanticipated equipment repairs.
Parks Director Bork said the city cemetery contains 46 acres and about 14,000 grave sites with roughly 45 full‑size spaces remaining for sale. The Odd Fellows agreed to sell a parcel of lots back to the city, which staff recommended purchasing at 80% of the original sale price; staff noted that state ordinance allows up to 70% repurchase in some cases but recommended 80% because the Odd Fellows’ spaces historically sold for a higher rate. The total repurchase cost presented to council was $38,400.
Director Bork also requested a $20,000 amendment to cover higher utility rates and equipment repairs (including replacement relay and concession equipment). Councilors said the Parks, Trees and Recreation Advisory Board had reviewed the request and recommended approval.
The motion passed 9‑0.
