DuPage County staff outline timeline for $175,000-per-district human services grants; District 4 faces heavier review

Mary Kathryn, who presented the program overview, said, “The money is gonna go out to each county board district. It's $175,000 per district.” She told members the staff will send a packet by close of business with directions, a summary spreadsheet of eligible projects, staff review notes and the applicants’ original submissions so board members can evaluate requests.
Staff said District 4 received more requests than its $175,000 allocation; committee members discussed options including proration or selecting fewer applicants. The presenter said staff are flexible and noted that, historically, where requests exceeded allocations some proration occurred. The committee discussed deadlines: staff requested members return their selections by May 14 so the committee could prepare for the May 20 Human Services Committee meeting; members agreed District 4 could be given an additional day or two (ideally through the following Thursday) to complete its review.
Committee members asked for a single point of contact for questions. One committee member offered to serve as a liaison to reduce pressure on finance staff; staff said questions that require legal review will be routed through the county attorney’s office. Staff confirmed that unused money in districts (for example, where approved projects use less than $175,000) will return to a county pool for future human services uses, including food-insecurity programs.
Committee members and staff emphasized the need to coordinate with other board members in each district and to communicate selections promptly by the stated deadlines. The presenter and county staff committed to sending application packets to each district’s members today and to acting on returned selections and staff notes at the next committee meeting.
