Committee extends EV-charging contract; committee discussion says county charges 15¢ per kWh and will start charging after additional stations installed

The DuPage County Public Works Committee on May 6 approved an amendment and extension to an existing electric-vehicle charging contract and discussed the county’s charging policy.

The committee approved an amendment to the contract identified on the agenda to allow the vendor listed in the transcript as “Carbon Day EV Charging” to deliver and install two electric-vehicle charging stations on the county campus and approved a change order extending the contract term to Nov. 30, 2025. The amendment carries no change to the contract dollar amount, according to the agenda item presented to the committee.

During the meeting’s old-business discussion, committee members and staff said an ordinance previously adopted by the board establishes a 15¢ per kilowatt-hour charge for vehicle charging. Committee members indicated the county planned to wait until a second station was operational and then begin applying the charge to collect data and recover installation and operating costs; staff stated the fee structure is intended so that, over the useful life of a unit, revenue would cover replacement and electricity costs. Members asked for and were told staff would provide an update at a later meeting.

The committee moved and approved the contract amendment and extension; the meeting record shows the motions carried. The item was presented as a facilities management contract amendment with no change in total contract value.
