DuPage County staff reports delay on DOT garage project; in-house cleanup at Fairgrounds to slow spending
Summary

During the transportation committee’s old-business discussion, a Transportation Division staff member said the DOT garage project is delayed from an August schedule and that spending expectations have shifted, with some costs pushed later into the year.
The staff member said the delay dates to August of the prior year and that "with our budget that we proposed in August, we expect it to be a little further along," but that the county is now slightly behind that plan. The staff member added, "So we're a little behind that, and that's basically the same as what we've been saying since about December." The staff member also said the county expects to "probably spend a few million this year when the project gets out there."
The presentation included a procedural change: Public Works and Facilities Management will perform some cleanup work on the Fairgrounds property in‑house rather than contracting it out. The staff member said shifting cleanup in‑house will delay some spending because the county will not immediately contract for that work.
Deacon Garcia asked for the update and the staff member apologized for any confusion. Committee members did not take formal action on the update; the remarks were recorded as information and follow-up.
The committee did not provide a revised schedule or an updated budget allocation in the meeting record; the staff member said only that some spending will occur later in the fiscal year and that the schedule remains generally as communicated in prior updates.
