Janelle, a DuPage Care Center staff member, told the committee the “3 center dementia unit was approved yesterday for occupancy,” and that the facility has multiple people waiting for admission. She said the center currently has no COVID-19 cases and “we are not wearing masks at [the] care center right now.”
The committee approved an acceptance and appropriation of additional funding for the DuPage Care Center Fund in the amount of $724,500. It also approved a purchase-order contract to Airgas USA LLC for a liquid medical oxygen central supply system for the period June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2029, not to exceed $125,661.21; a professional services contract to White and Company for architectural and engineering design of modernization and upgrades to the DuPage Care Center East Building for the period May 13, 2025, through May 31, 2026, not to exceed $724,500; and a purchase order to Medline Industries for replacement recliners for residents for the period May 7, 2025, through Nov. 30, 2025, not to exceed $27,949.45. Committee members approved the items by voice vote or roll call as recorded in meeting minutes.
On operations and logistics, Janelle said staff have already moved residents: “the dementia unit is on 3. It moved with 2. So that right now, technically, we are down 3 units,” and added the center is “hoping to get them moved by Monday.” She told the committee construction work—mitigation and demolition—has already begun on 2 North and 2 South to support further renovations.
Committee members asked for clarification about the occupancy approval process after staff described inconsistent inspections across state offices. Janelle said she had to contact multiple state offices to confirm whether the letter she received constituted approval and that a state official confirmed occupancy the evening before the meeting.
The committee also approved several purchase-order closings and decreases for vendors tied to care center operations and supply (KCI USA Inc., McKesson Medical Surgical Government Solutions, Performance Food Service) as listed on the consent agenda. Where roll-call votes were recorded, all participating committee members voted aye.
The items approved are limited to those described on the meeting agenda and recorded motions; no additional fundraising or policy changes were adopted during the discussion.
