The City of Sweetwater’s regularly scheduled commission meeting on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 6 p.m. was postponed after officials determined a quorum was not present.
During roll call at the Commission Chambers, 500 Southwest 109 Avenue, a roll-call announcer said commissioners Yaniel, Marti and Friess were absent. The presiding officer proposed waiting five minutes to see whether a quorum would appear. The city attorney advised that, without a quorum, "we can proceed no further" and recommended rescheduling the meeting in the next few weeks.
The presiding officer said the commission would wait the five minutes, then, when a quorum did not materialize, said the meeting would be rescheduled to a later date. No agenda items were taken up or acted on.
The delay began after roll call and a brief five-minute wait; the city attorney explicitly advised that the commission could not proceed in the absence of a quorum, and the presiding officer confirmed the meeting would be rescheduled. The commission did not set a new date at the meeting and provided no further detail about when the meeting would be reconvened.
