The Board of Public Works and Safety awarded a $59,144 contract to M and M Construction to renovate a dumpster enclosure in Veterans Alley at its May 5 meeting.
Community Development Specialist Dana Monson summarized the project history: construction began in 2020, delays occurred because of sewer work, and the enclosure was completed in 2022 with a slightly reduced size that staff later determined should be enlarged and corrected for a property-line error. Monson said Capital City Fence no longer performs this work, so the city re-solicited bids.
Monson read the bids into the record: “M and M construction sent a bid for $59,144 and Secure Links fencing sent a bid for $73,000.” After review, staff determined M and M Construction was the lowest, most responsive and responsible bidder and recommended award.
The contract calls for removal of the old concrete and enclosure and construction of a larger replacement intended to serve area dumpster needs and improve the alley’s appearance. Monson said the work will be paid from the Board of Works 400 series account, and staff prepared the city's standard contract to ensure insurance and verification requirements were included.
The board approved the contract by voice vote.
