Board appropriates $304,602.65 from MS4 fund to pay for new street sweeper

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved an appropriation of $304,602.65 from the MS4 stormwater fund to the MS4 400 series account to pay for an Elgin Regan X street sweeper at its May 5 meeting in Franklin City.
Street Commissioner and Fleet Manager Brett Jones told the board the vehicle has been delivered and the appropriation is necessary to execute payment. “This is the street sweeper that this board approved a little over a month or so ago. It is here and, therefore, they would like for us to pay for it,” Jones said.
Jones and other staff explained the city will keep the existing mechanical sweeper for heavy winter cleanup and use the new Elgin model during drier months when it is more efficient. The board recorded the approval by voice vote.
The appropriation moves funds within the MS4 (stormwater) fund structure so the payment can be processed through the board-managed utility account rather than City Council action, Jones said.
Board members asked whether the city will operate two machines simultaneously; Jones said both will be used at times depending on season and operational need.
