Michael (IT staff) briefed commissioners on the Barracuda backup arrangement and said Barracuda offered a short-term renewal to the end of the year; the board ratified the extension by motion. The IT department and other offices were cited as examples of departments that routinely manage annual subscription services such as Microsoft 365 and other vendor renewals.
County administration told the board an updated purchase authority ordinance is appropriate because previous language did not list IT, HR and some other departments as purchasing agents and did not reflect current renewal practices. The administrator said he would review the ordinance, determine appropriate purchase thresholds for different departments, and return a draft ordinance for commissioner approval; commissioners approved a motion to have Marvin review and submit draft updates.
Commissioners ratified the Barracuda renewal by voice vote and instructed staff to prepare the ordinance draft; no new multi-year financial commitments were approved beyond the ratified short-term extension.
