On April 20 the Northampton License Commission approved a large slate of temporary extensions of premises for outdoor dining, covering both public-property parklet-style setups and private-property patios and tents. Approvals cover a range of downtown restaurants and bars and include parklet spaces, sidewalk seating, parking-spot conversions and summer-event footprints.
Licensing staff, led by Annie, read the list of applicants and proposed spaces aloud; approvals were moved and seconded for individual applicants and carried by unanimous roll calls. Among the businesses approved were Fitzwilly's/Toasted Owl, Jake's Restaurant, Homestead, The Dirty Truth, Progression Brewing Company, Local Burger, Aminoo Cafe, Gombo Oyster Bar, India Palace, India House, La Veracruzana, Packard's, Iconico Social Club, Northampton Brewery, Masa Mexicano, Saratoga Sports Bar (The Office), Drawing Board Brewing Company, Notch 8 (The Deck), Eastside Grill, Moshi Moshi and others. Several approvals covered the "Summer on Strong" block event dates from May 20 through Sept. 8, 2025.
Fire Captain Stohlmeier advised applicants and staff to ensure fire department connections (FDCs) and egress paths are not obstructed by tables or parklets and asked that signage and access for sprinkler connections remain visible. Building staff noted that adding outdoor seating can change occupancy calculations tied to restroom fixture counts and said they will inspect expanded setups as needed.
Commissioners agreed to the approvals with standard conditions limiting sidewalk areas to transportation of alcoholic beverages only and requiring compliance with building and fire department guidance. Fire and building staff said they will prioritize inspections where needed and warned that short-notice applications on weekends or holidays are more difficult to inspect ahead of events.
