SCORE presents free mentoring, Boots to Business training for veterans; local session to be scheduled

Howard Kustoros, representing SCORE Treasure Coast, told the advisory board that SCORE provides free, volunteer mentoring and continuing-education workshops for small-business owners and prospective entrepreneurs, including programs tailored to military veterans.
Kustoros said SCORE is a national nonprofit partly funded by the Small Business Administration and that the Treasure Coast chapter serves Martin County and St. Lucie County. He described a veterans-focused training called Boots to Business and a separate start-up program for women veterans, and said SCORE can help veterans access SBA loan programs that offer priority processing and favorable terms.
“Over 7 months of this year, we have mentored and counseled, this is on national basis, 84,000 different clients,” Kustoros said. “In our continuing education workshops through 7 months, we've had more than 360,000 people attend these events.” He described SCORE as “the best kept secret in town” and asked the board to help spread SCOREs contact information to local veterans.
Board members offered to host a local session. The chairman said he would reach out to the American Legion and that Kustoros should get the board his materials; the chairman proposed scheduling a session in about two weeks and follow-up at a regular Wednesday meeting.
