Clay County commissioners voted May 6 to send a letter to City of Fargo leaders advocating that Fargo include a MATBUS stop at the new DMV facility (part of Fargo's 2026–2030 transit and shelter planning). The board requested the letter be sent on Clay County letterhead and copied to relevant local and regional officials.
Background: County staff and commissioners have engaged with Metro COG and MATBUS on transit routing and the regional transportation plan. County and county-adjacent facilities (including a new DMV location and a planned MATBUS stop) were discussed in Metro COG updates earlier in the meeting. County leaders said inclusion of a bus stop at the DMV would improve access for residents, especially those without cars, and support transit connections to county services.
Board action: The Board approved the letter and asked staff to add an opening line identifying the request as coming on behalf of the Clay County Board of Commissioners. Staff will send the letter to Fargo with copies to MATBUS and other local stakeholders and will request that transit planners consider adding a stop or amending routes to serve the DMV site.
Next steps: County staff will transmit the revised letter on county letterhead, follow up with Fargo transit planners and include the county's requests in upcoming Metro COG and county highway committee discussions.
