The Town Council approved a motion to waive competitive bidding and purchase a used International truck chassis for $15,000 from Beam Truck and Body, council members said.
The purchasing committee presented a request to waive competitive bidding for a 2010 International chassis (model indicated as a 7300 series) with about 42,000 miles. The intent is to mount the town’s stainless dump body on the chassis instead of buying a new truck that officials said could cost $250,000 to $300,000. The purchase will be paid from Capital Fund 50; the committee said the acquisition was approved under FTM Resolution 10.
A committee presenter told the council the chassis price of $15,000 should allow the town to continue operations for the near term while avoiding the significantly higher cost of a new vehicle. The committee recommended the purchase; the motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote with members saying “Aye.” The vendor named in the presentation was Beam Truck and Body.
The meeting record did not include a roll-call vote or a projected delivery or retrofit schedule for mounting the dump body. Staff did not specify whether additional inspections or warranties apply to the used chassis during the meeting.
