Council awards $320,890 contract to redevelop Fairlawn courts into fenced pickleball facility

The Town Council voted to award a $320,890 contract to Bosley Brothers to convert the former Fairlawn skate park and adjacent basketball court area into a fenced pickleball facility, council members said.

The purchasing committee reported it went out to bid for redevelopment of the old Fairlawn skate park area, including removing existing pavement, repaving the parking lot, creating a new parking layout and building a fenced pickleball court area behind a nearby residential building. The committee received four bids and recommended the lowest bidder, Bosley Brothers, for the work. The council moved and approved the award by voice vote.

Councilman Peshet introduced the purchasing committee report; a committee speaker summarized the bid process and scope. The committee also noted the town will receive a $100,000 DEM grant that covers about one-third of the anticipated cost. “So I’m recommending the award of it to them,” a staff member said when presenting the recommendation. Brian moved the motion to accept the committee recommendation and the motion was seconded and approved with all members saying “Aye.”

Project details provided to the council indicate the work will remove existing pavement in the former basketball court and adjacent parking area, construct a new parking lot, and install a fenced area for pickleball courts located to the rear of a nearby residential building. No construction schedule or contract start date was specified during the meeting.

The council did not identify a construction timeline or additional site approvals required; staff will provide further implementation details at a later meeting, the committee said.
