Miller told the council the developer estimated a capital cost of roughly $200 million and said the facility would provide “a 27‑megawatt‑hours” of storage. Miller also said the EDC presentation projected about $7.1 million in tax revenue to Thurston County and about $17.4 million in local economic impact.
According to Miller, next steps the presenter outlined are to complete environmental and engineering studies, file a conditional use permit with Thurston County and coordinate with county planning and departments on permitting. Miller said a copy of the EDC presentation is available on the EDC website.
Councilors discussed the project’s potential to support peak demand and the broader power needs of data‑center and AI workloads. Miller framed the presentation as informative for economic development planning; he did not report any city action or approvals. No BrightKnight representatives spoke during the council meeting and the council took no votes on the project.
