Board discusses creating half-time communications director position to replace contracted services

Superintendent Barnett explained the district had previously contracted a communications director through Mountain State for about $33,000 per year and that much of the work has been handled internally by district staff. He said the district is considering a half-time, multifaceted in-house position to absorb communications duties (media contact and related tasks) and perform clerical work such as Medicaid-related duties.
"We've been—we have hired a communications director through Mountain State for the past few years. . . the price on that is about $33,000," Barnett said. He added the proposed position would be paid from Lincoln County funds and would have other duties beyond external communications.
Board discussion clarified that the district will advertise and post the position for applications and intends to pay the hire from Lincoln County funds rather than from special-education funds. No separate recorded vote on creation of the position appears in the meeting minutes; the board did approve the consent agenda (which included items a–j) earlier in the meeting by a 5–0 vote.
Discussion versus decision: the board asked for and received details about the funding source and duties; staff said the district will post the job and accept applications. The formal consent vote that included the agenda items passed 5–0 earlier in the meeting; the board did not record a separate motion specifically creating or funding the position during open session.
