Community School resumes dog training, launches construction supervisor and lifeguard courses; summer offerings expand

The director said the adult‑education lineup will include two dog‑training courses (puppy socialization and an intermediate obedience class) to be held at the elementary school, a new construction supervisor course running Wednesday evenings for seven weeks with a certificate at the end, expanded language offerings including planned beginner Portuguese in the fall, and expanded lifeguard certification courses in May and June.
"We're gonna be offering a construction supervisor course... It's going to be about 3 hours long, these classes, for 7 weeks at a time. But it does end with a, certificate," the presenter said, and noted the district testing center can administer the certification exam. The presenter estimated course capacity by comparison, saying electrical journeyman classes have run at about 30 students and she expected a similar size but said she would confirm the exact cap.
Youth and fitness offerings include gymnastics expanded into cheer and tumbling, babysitter certification including CPR and first aid, basketball clinics for teens led by a professional player, and a dance camp. The presenter identified instructors for specific courses: Melissa Ramirez for Spanish for children, Natalie Thompson for CPR/first-aid in babysitter certification, and Provon Phillips for younger basketball programs. The dog-training instructor will be Meg Galugy.
Committee members asked about course frequency and capacity and were told language classes run quarterly and that most after‑school offerings meet once weekly or in week‑long daily camps during summer intensive weeks. No vote or funding decision was made; the presenter suggested the community school will monitor demand and adjust offerings and scheduling based on enrollment.
