At a district band showcase at Culture Stadium, Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District recognized middle and high school bands and presented honorary plaques to campus administrators and band directors while students performed and spoke about their upcoming seasons.
The event highlighted student preparation and district support for music programs. School board member Dr. Belinda Reiniger praised the students’ effort and the opportunities the district provides, and board member Mr. Rick Iliad again congratulated bands that recently earned high marks at regional competitions.
Students described intensive summer rehearsals and early-morning routines as foundations for the season. A student representing Harlingen High School said, "Our show is titled Time Traveler," and described the summer band as “laying the foundation” for competition performances. Another student said, "I wake up around 05:30 in the morning. I get here around 06:45, and we're all—we all work hard," describing long hours invested by students and staff.
Kara Hoeflinger, identified in announcements as the district director of music programs, called campus administrators and band directors forward to receive plaques recognizing their work. Announced schools and leaders included Gutierrez Middle School of Arts and Sciences (principal Mike Reyes; head band director William Bennett), Memorial Middle School (principal William Savey; head director Melissa Garcia), Vernon Middle School World Languages Academy, Coakley Middle School (principal Elizabeth Mitchell Bauer; head director Lehi Sanchez), Vela Middle School (principal Juan Garcia; head director Erica Oribe), and Harlingen High School South (principal Fernando Reyes; head director Ronnie Rios) among others.
Dr. Belinda Reiniger, identified as a Harlingen CISD board member, told the crowd, "Weren't they amazing? So proud of them," and emphasized opportunity, practice and expectations as drivers of student growth. Later, Mr. Rick Iliad, also identified as a Harlingen CISD school board member, said the recently competing high school bands had earned top scores, calling the performances at the event “fantastic job.”
Program titles announced during the event included Time Traveler, Byways and "Skeleton Crawl." Organizers recognized both middle and high school ensembles and thanked parents, grandparents, administrators, directors and students. The district presented plaques to campus administrators and directors during the ceremony.
The showcase served as a public recognition and community presentation of the district’s band programs; no formal board actions or votes were announced during the event.
