The Hillsborough County School Board on Tuesday approved payroll schedules for the 2025‑26 school year while several members pressed staff to consider broader pay‑distribution options for employees.
District payroll staff explained the schedule and how equalized pay and extended‑year payments are handled. Payroll manager Stephanie Brown told the board equalized pay is used to cover holiday shortfalls and is typically paid on the last paycheck; employees can opt to contribute to an extended‑year program that divides those funds over four summer paychecks.
Member Rendon and others asked why the district does not offer a broader 12‑month pay option for 10‑month employees. Staff said the district offers an extended‑year payout and allowed employees to contribute a flat amount or percentage; the district will provide more information on options and said finance staff would explore the feasibility of additional pay‑distribution approaches.
Member Combs cautioned that many teachers prefer their current arrangements and urged any changes be optional. The board voted unanimously to approve the payroll calendar.
