Miss Whiteman summarized six policy and regulation items for review. Proposed changes included changing audit reports and financial statement retention from permanent to five years and raising the capitalization threshold for furniture and equipment from $5,000 to $10,000 effective July 1, 2025 to align with uniform federal grant guidance. The board referenced the underlying uniform guidance as the driver of the threshold change.
Staff introduced a new policy that would permit special uses of school buses when they are not needed for student transport, in line with a change in state statute that allows boards to contract or charge fees for such use. Whiteman said fees are generally set to recoup the cost of the driver and overtime; actual fees would be set case by case.
On student health, nurse director Ms. Denman reviewed updates to medication supervision policies and consolidated five forms into three to reduce duplication and simplify parental approvals. The updated guidance clarifies that students may carry prescribed inhalers on a case‑by‑case basis if the health care provider, parent and school staff agree the student is responsible and trained; otherwise the nurse retains the medication per established procedures.
Separately, Miss Wallace previewed proposed secondary social‑studies textbooks for AP Psychology, AP U.S. History, Psychology, Issues in Psychology, Economics, U.S. History and World Geography. Administrators said current materials are about 12 years old and out of print. The district placed physical copies of the proposed books on the counter for board review; staff will return at the next meeting to ask for formal adoption and purchase approval.
Board members asked clarifying finance and health questions; no policy votes or textbook purchases occurred at the meeting. The items were placed on upcoming agendas for action after member review.
