Mister Nieves said he had researched a provision he believed to be Ohio Revised Code 1533 and concluded the backstop should be 30 feet tall; he said the range’s backstop appeared closer to 20 feet. He asked whether the city had a certified range officer and whether the range follows the referenced Ohio authority.
Chief Legg (Police) responded that the city would review the materials and that the chief, the city manager and the city attorney would follow up on any necessary corrections. He confirmed the department has three certified range officers. Council staff asked the resident to provide contact information so staff could reach him with any findings.
No formal action was taken; staff said they would research the legal requirements and report back to the resident and council.
