The Kankakee City Council approved, on second reading May 5, a development agreement with Limestone Townhomes LLC that includes a change recommended by the economic development committee extending a 50 percent reduction in building-permit fees for new homes in the project through Dec. 31, 2035.
City staff said all other negotiated conditions in the agreement remain unchanged from prior versions presented to council. The economic development committee recommended extending the permit-fee reduction from the previously offered five-year term to a 10-year term ending on Dec. 31, 2035.
Council recorded abstentions from two members on the final vote; the clerk recorded the vote as 10 ayes, 0 nays and 2 abstentions. The development agreement was returned to the council after committee review and approved on second reading.
