Residents urge Tomball council to preserve historic character, expand programs for veterans and special-needs community

During the public comment period at the May 5 Tomball City Council meeting, residents urged the council to prioritize historic preservation of the city’s remaining undeveloped land and to expand events and programs for veterans and people with special needs.
Becky Clifford, who identified herself as a Tomball resident and longtime volunteer, said the city should focus on preserving the remaining 20% of undeveloped land and on protecting historic buildings such as the First Baptist Church. “History brings a strong sense of community and pride,” Clifford said, and she urged the council to prioritize beautification and historic preservation over industrial development.
Rosemarie Hubbard invited the public to attend a May event honoring veterans and urged participation in the remembrance. Another speaker, who identified herself as Tammy, asked the council to develop more programs and fundraising activities for people with special needs and their families so they are “recognized” and included.
These comments were made during the public-comment portion of the meeting; the council did not take action in response during the session. Council members did not indicate a formal vote or assignment on these requests at the May 5 meeting.
