USD 437 administrators on Monday presented a revised professional development plan — the district’s five-year handbook required by the Kansas State Department of Education — and highlighted several required and optional changes.
Staff said the Professional Development Council (PDC) revised the handbook after engaging teacher representatives from each building and administrative members. The changes reflect KSDE procedural requirements, including updated PDC composition and operational procedures, a formal annual needs-assessment process, and a three-level activity verification system (levels 1, 2 and 3) for licensure and salary movement.
Presenters said the district will now peg conference meal reimbursement to General Services Administration (GSA) rates and align compensable professional-learning tasks with the negotiated agreement so compensation updates track future changes. Staff also noted a state regulatory change that removes caps and points for licensure from local KFCE procedures.
Anne Janka, a PDC member, attended and was available for questions. District staff said the substantive content of the handbook remains largely the same as previous plans but was updated to conform to state template and regulatory changes. The district will submit the revised handbook to KSDE for approval as required.
No board action was requested Monday; staff asked the board for comment and said they would finalize the handbook for state submission after any feedback.
